Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to see a Physisian first?

South Dakota is a direct access state; therefore, you do not need a physician prescription or referral to access physical therapy services. If you happen to see your doctor, I am still happy to accept referrals and I am more than willing to communicate with your doctor if you'd like.

Do you take my insurance?

I operate as an out-of-network, fee-for-service provider. I believe it's in your best interest to pay cash for physical therapy, allowing us to create a personalized plan of care without restrictions on treatment sessions or the number of visits you may need or desire.

I am dedicated to delivering the highest quality services to support your recovery. My goal is to provide what you truly need, rather than what an insurance company dictates. I prefer to focus on your care rather than dealing with paperwork and insurance requirements. Therefore, I charge a straightforward fee with no hidden costs, and payment is expected at the time of service.

Unfortunately, due to Medicare regulations, Optimal Performance cannot accept clients with Medicare insurance since we are an out-of-network provider.

If you request, I can provide a bill for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement. However, I cannot control or guarantee what services they will reimburse, if any. I recommend contacting your insurance company to inquire about coverage options.

How can I prepare for my appointment?

Please check your email for new client paperwork and complete it before your appointment so your therapist can review your injury in advance.

What if I feel to much pain during my session?

If you experience increased pain during your session, let your therapist know so they can adjust the treatment. Some soreness is normal and usually lasts 48 to 72 hours, followed by improved mobility and relief. Your therapist will ensure your treatment is both effective and comfortable.

How do I know if I need physical therapy?

If you experience ongoing pain, discomfort, or difficulty moving, walking, or performing daily activities, physical therapy may be beneficial. If you're recovering from surgery or an injury, physical therapy can help speed up your recovery and prevent complications.

What should I wear to my PT visit?

Please wear comfortable clothing that allows for easy movement, similar to workout attire. If your injury is around your hips or affects your legs, I recommend bringing shorts.
